Celebrations

Welcome to the busiest term in Class One!!

This term our topic is Celebrations, we will be exploring the following celebrations and festivals -Halloween, Bonfire Night, Diwali, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Christmas.

Reception continue to learn phase 2 phonics and work on blending and segmenting the 19 sounds they have learnt. Once confident they will move onto phase 3 but continue recapping on phase 2 and look at learning even more tricky words (he, she, was, my, you).

Year One’s are working on phase 5 sounds but recap on phase 3 and 4 sounds weekly.

In Literacy we will be focusing on instructions, captions, traditional tales, lists and poems.

In Maths we will be covering place value and addition and subtraction.

Reception will be focusing on 2D shapes including patterns, money and number, finding the total of two groups, finding one more and one less and using the language of more and fewer.

In PE the children will be learning about throwing, rolling and catching, moving and spatial awareness; we also follow Go Noodle and complete a few routines each morning to get our brains ready to learn.

Our Science will be carried out during wild tribe time which we will be doing as a whole day activity, twice in every 6 weeks.

In History we will learn about Halloween, The Gunpowder plot, The Festival of Lights and Hanukkah.

In ICT we will be accessing reading eggs and year 1 will be learning about e-safety, learning how to login independently and recognise common uses of information technology beyond school.

In Art, we will be making carving pumpkins, spooky snakes in jelly, firework pictures, rangoli patterns and lots of Christmas crafts!

PSHE will be based around behaviour, listening games and collaborative group games.
